Burden of new tax will be borne by all Americans
Top Senate Democrat tax writer Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) unveiled a plan to impose a federal tax on internet infrastructure, a cost burden that will be borne by all Americans.
“This tax will be paid by anyone who uses the Internet. A tax on data centers is a tax on your email, family photos, small business operations, cloud storage, and your Instagram, X, TikTok, and Facebook posts,” said James Erwin, Director of Innovation Policy at Americans for Tax Reform. “Senator Wyden is betraying his legacy as a champion of a free and open internet accessible to all.”
The Internet Tax will also hurt America’s competitiveness vs. China.
“No one will applaud Democrats’ Internet Tax more than the Chinese Communist Party. Democrats are forcing America to compete with China with one arm tied behind our back,” said Erwin.
