ATR Remembers Competitive Enterprise Institute Founder Fred L. Smith, Jr. (1940-2024)

Everyone over at Americans for Tax Reform joins in remembering and celebrating the life and work of Fred Smith, founder of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a leader of the modern center-right movement. He was a friend.

The world is freer because Fred Smith lived and led. Our government is less abusive than it would have been. Americans have led braver and more prosperous lives than if Fred Smith had not lived and worked among us.

He was a cheerful warrior for freedom. He made the struggle enjoyable. He made the world around him a more pleasant experience as he made the wider world freer. He was surrounded by friends and allies who learned from him and taught others the how and why of expanding liberty.
