This past week, former New York Lieutenant Governor, and current Newsmax host Betsy McCaughey announced her bid for Connecticut Governorship. In her opening speech, she promised to eliminate the income tax and focus on fixing Connecticut’s floundering economy.
Connecticut currently has a top marginal state individual income tax of 6.99%, putting it in the middle of the pack for New England. However, eliminating the income tax would make it one of only two New England states to eliminate the income tax, along with New Hampshire.
McCaughey also released a two-page press release that promised a panel of experts who would make a full-fledged plan on how to lower the income tax. The press release included a quote from the President of Americans for Tax Reform Grover Norquist saying, “Five of those states(IN, KY, MS, OK, WV) have already passed laws that trigger income tax rate reductions down to zero as growth brings in more tax revenues.”
To further her point, she made use of ATR’s Zero & Flat Income Tax States Map.
Betsy McCaughey gives hope to bring common sense tax policy back to New England and put Connecticut on the right path towards economic growth.
