Americans for Tax Reform urges members of Congress to support the Stop the Climate Shakedowns Act of 2026 (H.R. 8330) introduced by Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.) to combat the rise of climate lawfare targeting America’s energy producers. Companion legislation has been introduced by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) in the Senate.
The House Judiciary Committee will hold a markup of the legislation on Wednesday and ATR urges all members on the committee to support the bill.
The Stop Climate Shakedowns Act prohibits frivolous climate lawsuits against American energy producers from being brought in either state or federal court.
The bill also voids any energy penalty law and preempts any states’ attempts to regulate interstate and global emissions.
By prohibiting causes of action for climate change related harms, blue states hoping to impose a radical climate agenda nationwide will not be able to team up climate litigators who abuse lawsuits and “Climate Superfunds” to harass and extort the American energy sector for billions of dollars annually.
This legislation protects taxpayers and consumers from rising energy costs and protects America’s energy dominance and independence.
Americans for Tax Reform urges all lawmakers to support the Stop the Climate Shakedowns Act of 2026.
