Today, New Jersey is holding a special election for who will be the next Representative of its 11th Congressional District. The Republican candidate Joe Hathaway, a pledge signer, is committed to lowering taxes, making energy affordable, and creating jobs. However, his opponent Analilia Mejia is running to ruin not just New Jersey’s 11th congressional district but the United States as a whole.

Much of her campaign is not centered on what would be beneficial for her constituents but on what sounds good, no matter how unattainable or insane the policy might be. For example, one of Analilia’s campaign promises is to “make big tech pay & lower our utility bills”. What does she mean by this? It means she wants to eliminate data centers by supporting Bernie Sanders’ moratorium on new AI Data Centers. This goes against much of the research done on data centers which shows that many provide for their own energy consumption and are not nearly as environmentally problematic as they are made out to be. In completely shutting down the discussion over AI then America is giving itself a handicap and hurt the American economy.

There are several other policies she has suggested that would undermine American economic prosperity such as putting heavy limits on Wall Street and raising government costs through big social programs such as “Free” Public College. Much of these policy issues would put constraints on economic growth and raise taxes further expatriating the current cost of living crisis seen in the United States. Given issues on government spending, rising debt, and cost of living many of her policies are unrealistic and destructive in the current political landscape.

Her solution to most issues is to tax billionaires and corporations to pay for things. Child Care? Billionaires will pay for that. Medicare? Corporations can foot the bill. Free College? Both Corporations and Billionaires can cover that as well. However, pinning every cost issue on Corporations and Billionaires does not acknowledge the main issue that all these programs will cost way more than the United States can afford, it only acts as a scapegoat to issues such as cost of living.

Her worst policy issues are her radical beliefs on the very foundations of the US constitution. She believes in impeaching supreme court justices because of their beliefs. This radical belief can have a destructive precedent on the independence of the Supreme Court.

It is clear the correct choice for New Jersey’s 11th district is Joe Hathaway, his approaches to key issues such as the elimination of taxes for First time Homebuyers or making healthcare more affordable through eliminating bureaucracy makes him the clear correct candidate. His goal is to make tax cuts to give Americans more while Analila Mejia wants to take more from Americans.
