Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) commends Georgia Lieutenant Governor and gubernatorial candidate Burt Jones for signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge

So far, Burt Jones is the only gubernatorial candidate in the race to sign the Pledge, a written commitment to Georgia taxpayers to “oppose and veto any and all efforts to increase taxes” once elected governor.

“Georgia families are feeling the squeeze of rising costs, and they deserve a governor who will fight to let them keep more of what they earn,” said Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones.

“I want to congratulate Lieutenant Governor Jones for signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge to the people of Georgia,” said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, “Georgia voters can trust that Lieutenant Governor Jones will be their ally in the governor’s mansion. By making this written commitment, he has reaffirmed that government should be reformed and take less of taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars. Lieutenant Governor Jones has made a written commitment to Georgians to oppose any and all tax increases. Protecting taxpayers makes Georgia an even more attractive place to live, work, and raise a family.”

Americans for Tax Reform created the Taxpayer Protection Pledge in 1985 to solidify candidates’ commitments to taxpayers. President Reagan urged all candidates to sign the Pledge, campaigning for and praising candidates who did so. Today, over 1,400 elected officials and candidates on the federal and state levels are Taxpayer Protection Pledge signers.

New candidates sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge regularly. For the most up-to-date information on this race or any other, please visit the ATR Pledge Database
