In a shocking turn of events, Democrats in Wisconsin want to raise taxes.

Francesca Hong, a self-proclaimed Democrat Socialist and the leading Democrat Primary candidate for Governor in Wisconsin wants to increase the top flat tax rate to more than 17% in a foolish tax the rich scheme. Her proposal would create a new tax bracket for millionaires and businesses that would siphon 17 cents out of every dollar earned after the first million.

Hong is trying to pull Wisconsin into the “get rich quick fad” of a wealth tax. The reality with these types of taxes is that they only drive wealth out of the state they’re passed in. California’s proposed Billionaire tax has already driven out ~$126 billion in potential revenue, and it hasn’t even passed into law yet. New York State’s exodus of wealth has been expedited by a tune of nearly $11 billion thanks to the rise of Mamdani and his own tax rich agenda.

Hong claims this is a tax against the super wealthy, but it will only drive businesses and investors out of the state. Wisconsin ranks 21st in the Tax Foundation’s competitiveness index, which is below Iowa and Michigan. Hong’s proposed tax hike would only make Wisconsin less competitive, at a time when the state is seeing record investments from companies like Microsoft, Meta, and Rockwell Automation. The investments these companies and many others are making are thanks to years of low tax, business friendly policies from Republicans in the State House and Senate. Hong’s proposal, or any tax hike for that matter, is the exact opposite type of policy Wisconsin should pursue.

Luckily for the taxpayers of Wisconsin, they have gubernatorial candidate and US Representative Tom Tiffany. Tiffany is a Taxpayer Protection Pledge signer and served in the Wisconsin State Assembly for nearly a decade. Throughout his time in the State Assembly, he consistently advocated for the same type of low tax, pro-growth policies that drove businesses like Microsoft, Meta, and Rockwell Automation to invest in Wisconsin. At the Federal level, Tiffany was crucial in the passing of the One Big Beautiful Bill which delivered the largest tax cut in history for working families, seniors, and small businesses. He also worked on ending taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security in H.R.1 — 119th Congress

As a signer of the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, Congressman and Gubernatorial Candidate Tom Tiffany has made the strongest possible public commitment to protect Wisconsin taxpayers. He has and will continue to work directly to combat taxes such as the one proposed by Candidate Hong.

Insanity is trying something over and over again while expecting different results. Candidate Hong’s proposed wealth tax will fall right into this fallacy. Businesses, investors, and wealth will flood out of Wisconsin just as they’ve done in New York and California. Hopefully this November, the taxpayers of Wisconsin will see reason and choose to keep their money where it belongs, in their pockets.
