ATR Commends Pledge Signers in Oklahoma as State Primary Approaches June 16

As Oklahomans head to the voting booth today to select their Republican nominees for this year’s state elections, they deserve to know where their candidates stand on key issues such as taxation and spending.

Fortunately for conservative Oklahomans, these candidates have signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, making a written commitment to their constituents to oppose and vote against tax hikes in any form.

All too often candidates will make promises during their campaign not to raise taxes, only to abandon the taxpayers that elected them once they reach office. The Taxpayer Protection Pledge requires candidates to put their commitment in writing, making it much harder to change course.

Americans for Tax Reform created the Taxpayer Protection Pledge in 1985 to solidify commitments from candidates to their taxpaying constituents. President Ronald Reagan urged that all candidates should sign the Pledge. He campaigned for, and continuously supported, candidates who made the important step of signing the Pledge. In 2026, over 1,400 elected officials and candidates across state legislatures and in Washington are signers of the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.

There are currently 194 Pledge signers in the U.S. House of Representatives and 44 signers in the U.S. Senate. Around 88% of Republicans in the U.S. Congress have signed the Pledge and put their commitment to protecting taxpayers from tax hikes in writing, whereas ZERO Democrats have made this commitment.

“Voters are looking for solutions that get Americans back to work and grow the economy. Signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge and holding the line on taxes is the first step in that process.” said Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform. 

Unfortunately, Democratic candidates do not share the same sentiment towards protecting American taxpayers and stimulating economic growth. They seek to change course, implement endless tax-and-spend schemes that only stunt economic growth and funnel money out of the hands of taxpayers and into the hands of bureaucrats.
