San Francisco, CA

Now that the dust has settled from California’s June 2 election, there is evidence of a growing tax revolt.

California voters rejected several key local tax increase ballot measures:

San Francisco Measure D — pushed by labor unions to raise taxes on “overpaid CEOs” failed 54%-46%

Los Angeles city Measure TT to raise the hotel occupancy tax failed 53%-47%

San Diego Measure A to impose an $8,000 tax on second homes failed 54%-46%

Contra Costa County Measure B to raise sales tax to “fund general county services” failed 57%-43%

Oakland Measure E to raise the parcel tax for “public safety programs and improvements” failed 54%-46%

Monterey Measure D to raise the sales tax for “Emergency Response Programs + City Services” failed 51% – 49%.

Plumas County Measure B to impose a 1% sales tax for the “maintenance and enhancement of the quality of life of citizens in the county” failed 70%-30%.

Lompoc Measure B2026 to impose a 0.5% sales tax for the “maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of existing Lompoc streets, roads, alleys, and related infrastructure” failed 53%-47%.

🟡 Los Angeles County Measure ER to impose a 0.5% sales tax for “local health departments and services” narrowly passed 50.61%–49.39%

  • Even in hard progressive left Los Angeles, this half cent sales tax barely squeaked through with a razor-thin margin of ~10,000 votes out of a million cast.
