New York City voters have just chosen to elect socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani for mayor, a man who has promised to ask New Yorkers to pay higher taxes.
For New York City residents, this could mean higher taxes if Mamdani goes through with the promises made in a September 8th, Interview with Al Sharpton.
“In part, by showing them that asking them to pay more in taxes would increase even their quality of life. Because when you ask New Yorkers what it is that is making them feel uneasy in this city, you often hear from them about the cleanliness of our city, the safety of our city, the affordability of our city. We are not asking so that we can actually make the slowest buses in the country fast and free”

Mamdani has proved that he believes asking millionaires to pay higher taxes means that they will be willing to, however this will be put to the test now that he is mayor. Unfortunately New York has already been ranked 49th in the Tax Foundation State Business Tax Climate Index 2024-state-business-tax-climate-index indicating an already downward trend.
If these intentions come into fruition it will likely mean that many New Yorkers will begin to exit the state for lower tax climates. NYC deserves better than another tax-and-spend administration.
