The first of Obamacare’s 21 new tax hikes will go into effect next week – July 1.  At 10 percent, the tax on indoor tanning is already putting a business, paperwork, and employment burden on mom and pop tanning salons, where business owners have been forced to jack up prices. For many, this will result in fewer customers and profits and more layoffs and store closures.  As one tanning salon owner says, “It is very emotional to see your dream being literally shattered by someone in Washington.”

PolitiFact, an organization that tracks promises kept and broken by politicians has rated the President’s “firm pledge” that “no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase,” as a broken promise.  PolitiFact specifically mentions the tanning tax as a violation of his pledge.  Industry estimates from the Indoor Tanning Association show that nearly 30 million Americans use indoor tanning facilities.
