2.19 Million Jobs Lost Under Obama
From John Kartch on Friday, June 5, 2009 10:10 AMThe U.S. has lost 2.2 million jobs since President Barack Obama took office. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the total number of jobs nationwide fell from 134.3 million at the end of January to 132.2 million at the end of May.
The unemployment rate now stands at 9.4 percent, up from 7.6 percent at the end of January.
“I think my initial measure of success is creating or saving 4 million jobs,” said President Obama on February 9.
Monthly job losses reported by the BLS are as follows:
Feb: 651,000
Mar: 663,000
Apr: 539,000
May: 345,000
Total: 2,198,000
Mar: 663,000
Apr: 539,000
May: 345,000
Total: 2,198,000
“President Obama demanded that Congress spend hundreds of billions of dollars to stimulate the economy,” said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. "On Friday, February 13 Congress approved a disgraceful trillion-dollar spending and debt package under the guise of economic stimulus. Since that date at least 1.5 million jobs have been lost in America.”
“Spend more money. Have fewer jobs,” continued Norquist. “Let's stop this madness.”

So, you're actually blaming him for the mess that Bush created during 8 years? You know, if you at least cared to -look- at the progression, you'd see that the job-loss rate is decreasing. It's sad that people are still losing jobs, but please, don't make stupid claims based on your political inclinement.
>> Woot Friday, June 5, 2009 10:56 AM
Woot, I would recommend that you read this article in Time Magazine, http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1903020,00.html; you will find that while there are less jobs being cut, the unemployment rate still rose in May to 9.4%, the highest the unemployment rate has been in 25 years. People are without jobs, Woot, and Obama's radical increase of government isn't helping. Obama claims that he will create jobs, but he does not have the evidence to back up his claim, as detailed in this article.
>> Not quite Woot... Friday, June 5, 2009 11:02 AM
Look, since the unemployment rate is increasing, basically what is happening is that the job loss rate is higher than job creation rate. Under these circumstances, to achieve stability (no decrease or increase on unemployment) you either: a) increase job creation or b) decrease job loss. a) is unlikely to happen since there's a recession going on, which was a result of almost a decade of bad management decisions, but b) is happening.
>> Woot Friday, June 5, 2009 11:12 AM
If the trend continues, there'll be a time when the job creation rate, albeit low, will surpass the job loss rate, and the unemployment rate will decrease. Until then, chill out. Bush had 2920 days to fix/prevent this mess - I don't think it's plausible to think that the new guy will solve it on 100 days.
>> Woot Friday, June 5, 2009 11:16 AM
Woot - you are ignoring two rather critical facts in your attempts at petty political point scoring. Firstly, although some of the job loss can be attributed to factors other than Obama, much of it is directly related through the loss of confidence in the economy that his words and actions created. The more he spoke, and the more he engaged in economic vandalism, the less people invested. With tax increases already passed, and more on the horizen, not to mention EFCA and other anti-job legislation still on the table, why would any business want to hire right now? The responsibility for this mess rests clearly at Obama's door. (Continued below)
>> Tim Friday, June 5, 2009 11:23 AM
I understand that the job loss rate is higher than the job creation rate, Woot-- thanks for clearing that up. My point is, however, that Obama has claimed that he will create jobs to boost unemployment, yet the unemployment rate is at an all time high. As quoted by John Kartch, Obama said, "'I think my initial measure of success is creating or saving 4 million jobs,'"; well where are those jobs Woot? Whether or not the country has been mismanaged for a decade, Obama claimed that he would improve our country's job market, yet more Americans are out of a job than ever. Stop taking stabs at Bush, and start blaming our current present.
>> Not quite Woot... Friday, June 5, 2009 11:26 AM
(Sorry, this blog has a ridiculous policy of 500 characters per post, and forces you to wait between posts) Secondly, Obama justified his radically ideological high-spending claiming it would create more jobs. This was the way he was able to bamboozle Congress into supporting it. Irrespective of my first point, on this criteria alone it has clearly failed in its aim. Obama lied to Congress and the American people. Simple as that.
>> Tim Friday, June 5, 2009 11:29 AM
Woot, "inclinement" is not a word. I believe you are looking for the word "inclination." Glad I could help.
>> Spellcheck Friday, June 5, 2009 11:33 AM
You are pointing out a slow down in job loss that was created by government hiring, particularly for the Census, which has ended. If you think Bush is the worst, and simply want someone better than him, then you doom us to a leader who is simply terrible.
>> Maximillian Friday, June 5, 2009 11:37 AM
A few things of importance: A.) The Stimulus Package has "failed" to stem the loss of jobs at the state level, which was one of the principle reasons as to why the Obama Administration argued that it be passed so quickly. That piece of information comes from the Washington Post, which is NOT a Conservative leaning publication as I am sure you are aware. B.) Many of the jobs that are being "created" are Federal Government jobs... which we know cost the taxpayer money because they pay for that Federal Employee's salary/benefits. So not only are State jobs still being cut (failure of the Stimulus); you also have a situtation where the taxpayer is paying double for nothing.
>> JackLA Friday, June 5, 2009 11:44 AM
Check out Mankiw's Blog for the relevant point about accountability. http://gregmankiw.blogspot.com/2009/05/accountability.html If the Economy loses 2.5 million jobs with the stimulus, Obama will just say it would have lost 6.5. Every promise he makes is either simply empty or grossly dishonest.
>> Julius Friday, June 5, 2009 11:48 AM
Look up the page at the Daily Media Spotlight article on Job statistics to get more info on what is going on with this issue.

44 of 50 states reported the Obama stimulus plan has produced nothing ...but increased job losses, which some are saying is proof the stimulus plan is a horrible failure. You can't blame Bush for that! Bush left a problem and Obama has made it much worse!!!

To all freedom-loving Americans, If you believe like me that no one is too big to fail while our government continues to sell out our children's future then join me by putting the TEAth in TEA PARTY by cashing in ALL our government bonds and bills on "PAYBACK AMERICA DAY", July 3rd 2009. Think of the powerful message this will send to OUR government. For more information visit http://www.paybackamerica.org or email us at freedom@paybackamerica.org

Obama is probably right, by the time he is finished he will have "saved" 4 million jobs... the other 296 million Americans, however, will be screwed. We are missing one big thing though, job creation is an effect not a goal. We should be focused on increasing Productivity, not jobs. We can hire 100 people to dig a foundation for a building, but it will be faster and cheaper to hire 1 guy with an excavator. Any jobs created by the government are not going to be productive, they will either be bureaucrats or make-work jobs and will take resources away from productive wealth creation in favor of "creating jobs." As production increases, jobs follow, not the other way around.
>> TCH Friday, June 5, 2009 3:44 PM
As many people have noted, when Obama says he is "saving jobs," he is making sure that he will not fail. He probably will continue to say that despite what these figures show, job loss could have been a lot worse without his policy. Whether or not this is his "fault" or not, he refuses to believe that his policies are not helping the situation. Either that or he doesn't want the American people to catch onto the wasted money.
>> saving jobs? Friday, June 5, 2009 4:27 PM
Woot Bush is not President. Forget Bush!! Obama is destroying this country along with the Democratic air-heads in Congress.
>> Dennis Riccio Monday, June 8, 2009 1:30 AM
Congress controls spending not the President.... So YES you can surly blame Obama for this mess and job loss... He was a member of Congress at the time.. Regan was handed a much worse unemployment figures then Obama 10.8 percent..But you never heard him complain or ask for a stimulus package.. He just went out and tackled the problem head on..All Obama does is cry... THE SKY IS FALLING SO HIM AND HIS BUDDIES CAN ROB YOU BLIND RIGHT BEFORE YOUR EYES..
>> Jim Friday, July 24, 2009 1:04 PM
all the money he wasted on general motors for nothing, when bush was president everyone had jobs ,dosnt he know that more jobs in the u.s means more money for the people and the u.s.a/he needs to start helping us instead of wasting more money and fewer jobs.without jobs that means no more houses cars clothes and no taxas going to help our country.
>> a.o Wednesday, July 29, 2009 1:55 PM
I have yet to see a benifit to having Obama as a president. As all of us heard and seen on the news, under his rule and decision GM is cutting jobs left and right. closing dealerships at an astonishing pace. Its not just GM and small town america life blood plants and dealerships getting hit. Boeing anyone? local news just not to long ago announced that a key government contract was termanated, cutting half of the jobs at a local plant. Even a local corperation, Corning inc has cut/is cutting 3,500 jobs in a small city of 12,000 people? When will small town america stop suffering for a corrupt government?
>> DSD Friday, July 31, 2009 10:26 AM
yeah blame obama and more congress they passes law's without reading a dam thing, congress should demand factories that if you want to sell in the usa you make it here and countries like china if you want free trade with us you consume, aleast 50% from us.
>> albert c Monday, November 2, 2009 8:12 PM
This is a perfect picture of how politicians and special interest groups work. We can't begin to hold them responsible for their irresponsibility without first taking the responsibility ourselves for electing them! When you allow those who DON'T have a vested interested making decisions for those who do, we only have ourselves to blame when one day, the dreams of ALL americans are washed away by this title wave of political correctness, global warming wave flagging, and complacent benchwarming as our country is taken over by those who not only DON'T share in our views of what makes America great, but actually believe the opposite!
>> uscitizen Thursday, November 12, 2009 10:26 AM
Well folks that is what you get. Oboma is for higher taxes result more job loss and other problems. If the healthcare bill passes it will hurt people and put us out of work. Oboma know what he is doing.
>> cool Thursday, November 19, 2009 12:47 AM
How about we all stop the presumption that the government (along with their selected "presidential" puppet) exists to serve us? They fully intend to enslave us through an engineered economic collapse, forced health care and vaccinations, etc.
>> jim Thursday, November 19, 2009 1:59 PM
forget the president and the people in congress,we should come together no matter what race and religion we are.We are americans lets take back are country rember they work for us lets put are differences aside. We out number them they want us to hate each other so we won't stand up to them
