Global Warming Has Brought on A New Ice Age!
From Todd Hollenbeck on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 5:05 PM
Data on the average national temperatures from the NOAA came out for the month of October, and it is worse than we could have imagined… October was the 3rd coldest month on record! That’s right, global warming has become so intense, it is ushering in a new ice age. The NOAA reports, “The average October temperature of 50.8°F was 4.0°F below the 20th Century average and ranked as the 3rd coolest based on preliminary data.” Now one month of cooling doesn’t mean an ice age is coming, but the earth has been cooling since 1998! We must act immediately!

The climate will continue to change because I am burning my trash and drive a big SUV. I suggest everybody else do the same so that we can warm the planet. If more C02 causes global warming, then we simply need to increase C02!

Say it with me: The US is not the Earth. The US is not the Earth. Global means Earth. Global means Earth. Repeat until you stop writing such stupid headlines that have nothing to do with the content.

Green, let me get this straight, earth means global (actually it doesn't since earth is a noun and global is an adjective so not exactly a synonym is it Captain English? Globe would be closer, but the earth is a globe but a globe is not always the earth, but I digress). So if we take the sentence "the earth has been cooling since 1998" and replace "earth" with "global" we have "the [global] has been cooling since 1998" which would of course make no damn sense (since global is an adjective), but it would fit perfectly with the headline. Maybe if you had read all the way to the end of the first paragraph you would have seen that sentence and not made such a stupid comment.

Green, As recently as 4 or 5 years ago, the bulk of the "global" temperature collections sites were the US. (It may not have been an absolute majority, but the concentration clearly skews the averages in favor of the continental US.) Which is why at least one organization went on a crusade to expose all of the temperature censors surrounded by air-conditioning condensers, asphalt, etc. You can't have it both ways.

TCH- Eight warmest years since 1998 and 14 warmest since 1990, and you want to draw a line from the warmest year to the current year and claim that the earth has been cooling since 1998! But worse, the author intentionally misinforms by claiming "October was the 3rd coldest month on record!" Not once does the author state he is talking very specifically about the contiguous 48. Of course he avoided Alaska, but more to the point he speaks of Global Warming then asks that Cons look up his links to find the lie. Typical. Zendo thinks that site density has something to do with global temperature averages. Ugh. You guys really have to take a science class once in awhile. No wonder colleges and universities are Liberal institutions.

In 1974 Time Magazine ran an article stating that the world is headed for another ice age. As a student of paleontology at the time it seemed reasonable and I was concerned. I needed to go out and buy a new coat! Not a decade later whispers were being heard that "Nope it's beginning to warm up." Remembering my geology education, that seemed reasonable too as there are epoch weather cycles, (I forgot that epochs spanned more than a couple of years.) The glaciers are melting. Just a few thousand years ago the glaciers covered what we here in the US of A call home. It stands to reason that they continue to retreat.

A Mexican Scientist ostracized for his contrary views has been predicting an cooling period of due to reduced Solar Activity. Wait... Would the sun have anything to do with warming the earth, globally. Hmmm think, think, think. I've got it! The climatological cycles are bigger than puny man. We are not gods, given the ability to influence weather.

We are merely influenced by it. And some of us put on ridiculous religious garb, and chant to the heavens, beat our chest and adopt legislation written on paper that will empower us only to hurt the advancement of our fellow men. Global warming, er, ah cooling has been occuring since the earth evolved from nothing. After all there was nothing to begin with and then Bang! earth, for 8 billion years heated and cooled and heated and cooled and puny man arrived a blink ago. How much more hogwash must we endure from false god-men before we wake up? Climate change happens! Get over it

Geez people. Reread the short article. Sounds more like sarcasm to me. Look, scientists and politicians are using us all. Scientists are touting the politicians line to get increased funding to do research that backs up their funding requests, and politicians are using this to not help us, but as another way to control us. Then there are the wack-o enviro-nuts who want to rid Mother Earth of most of humanity and return it to pre-human days. Something else will be on tap in a few years and the cycle will start all over again. You heard it here first, global cooling starts 12/21/2012 :~}

Green, first 1934 was the warmest on record, and 1998 is the warmest lately (http://is.gd/4UgHZ) there are no years warmer after 1998. Second, "Data on the average national temperatures from the NOAA came out...," National mean USA (in this context) and the NOAA says "For the nation as a whole, it was the third coolest October on record." Doesn't say "contiguous," it says, "as a whole" so even if Alaska had its 10th warmest Oct (meaning 9 other years were still warmer) it still averages out that the US "as a whole" was colder. Third, isn't the USA part of the "global"? If the US is colder, then the "global" can't really be getting warmer can it? Some other parts might be, but that is called "the weather."
>> TCH Friday, November 13, 2009 10:20 AM Report Comment
I still do not understand the argument. For those of us who know that the planet is cooling and that C02 has nothing to do with warming or cooling, we can continue to use electricity, drive cars and heat our homes. Those who believe that using fossil fuels are harming the planet should stop using them. No electricty, no gas and no heating fuel. Easy. The split should be around 50% if the econuts are not lying, so that will reduce greenhouse emissions by 50%. Very simple. It will also reduce the population by 50%. Another bonus.

For all the greenies out there there is one option. Turn off your lights, park your car and give up ALL the trappngs of modern life. Move to a cave with Osama, he can use your company. Sit in the dark and freeze to death. Leave the rest of us to prosper and live a long and fruitful life. If you rely upon on element of modern life, like reading this on your computer screen, your guilt in your own hypocrisy is driving you to want to regulate us who don't share your ecoguilt. Go and receive absolution in the caves of Pakistan.
