Americans for Tax Reform strongly congratulates Governor Mike Kehoe on his election as Governor of Missouri. Kehoe is a signer of the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, a written commitment to Missouri taxpayers that he will oppose and veto any and all efforts to raise state taxes.
Kehoe’s Democrat opponent, Crystal Quade, did not sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, leaving the door open to higher taxes on Missouri families.
Governor-elect Kehoe is committed to lowering the state’s income tax rate and providing additional tax relief to the people of Missouri, having already backed $2.4 billion in tax cuts by eliminating the state’s personal income tax.
“My administration will work to eliminate the state income tax to put hard-earned dollars back in the pockets of hardworking Missourians and make Missouri more competitive with places like Florida, Texas and Tennessee,” said the governor-elect in October.
Missourians can be confident that, under Governor Kehoe’s tenure, they’ll have a strong taxpayer ally in the governor’s mansion and their tax burden will not increase.
“I congratulate Taxpayer Protection Pledge signer Mike Kehoe on winning the Missouri gubernatorial race. With Governor Kehoe’s public commitment to phasing out the state income tax, Missourians know that he’ll work to make Missouri a more prosperous place to live, raise a family, and start a business,” said ATR President Grover Norquist.
Prior to being elected governor of Missouri, Kehoe signed and kept his “No New Taxes” pledge throughout his tenure as lieutenant governor.
Americans for Tax Reform offers the Pledge to all candidates for state and federal office. In addition to Governor Gianforte, 17 other sitting governors are signers of the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.
Americans for Tax Reform created the Taxpayer Protection Pledge in 1985 to solidify candidates’ commitments to taxpayers. President Reagan urged all candidates to sign the Pledge. He campaigned for and praised candidates who signed the Pledge. Today, over 1,400 elected officials and candidates on the federal and state levels are Taxpayer Protection Pledge signers.
