Americans for Tax Reform strongly congratulates Governor-elect Mike Braun on his election as Governor of Indiana. Braun is a signer of the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, a written commitment to Indiana taxpayers that he will oppose and veto any and all efforts to raise state taxes.
Kehoe’s Democrat opponent, Jennifer McCormick, did not sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, leaving the door open to higher taxes on Hoosier families.
Governor-elect Braun has committed to lowering tax burdens for Indiana families through a series of reforms, including indexing income tax brackets to inflation, capping property tax increases, and eliminating state taxes on tips.
“I congratulate Taxpayer Protection Pledge signer Mike Braun on winning the Indiana gubernatorial race. As a U.S. Senator, Mike Braun took the pledge and honored it, leaving no doubt that we can trust him to continue championing pro-growth policies, protecting economic freedom, and resisting any attempts to burden Hoosiers with unnecessary tax hikes as governor,” said ATR President Grover Norquist.
As a U.S. Senator, Mike Braun has championed taxpayers and worked to protect them from abuse, sponsoring the “Don’t Weaponize the IRS Act” to protect citizen groups’ free speech rights, as well as the “Protect Taxpayer Privacy Act” to hold IRS employees accountable by increasing the penalty for releasing private taxpayer information, and the “IRS Customer Service Improvement Act.”
Americans for Tax Reform offers the Pledge to all candidates for state and federal office. In addition to Governor Braun, 18 other sitting governors are signers of the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.
Americans for Tax Reform created the Taxpayer Protection Pledge in 1985 to solidify candidates’ commitments to taxpayers. President Reagan urged all candidates to sign the Pledge. He campaigned for and praised candidates who signed the Pledge. Today, over 1,400 elected officials and candidates on the federal and state levels are Taxpayer Protection Pledge signers.
