Kamala Harris thinks Americans eat too much red meat and if elected she vows to use the power of the federal government to reduce red meat consumption for “climate” reasons.

(By the way, due to Biden-Harris inflation since Jan. 2021, the price of a pound of ground beef has risen from $3.97 to $5.47).

During a CNN presidential “climate crisis town hall” in September 2019, Harris said she will change federal dietary guidelines for the purpose of reducing American red meat consumption. A climate activist audience member teed up the discussion by asserting that “climate change has been linked to agriculture and the over-consumption of red meat.”

CNN then put the question to Harris:

CNN moderator Erin Burnett: “Would you support changing the dietary guidelines?”

Harris: “Yes!”

Burnett: “To reduce red meat specifically?”

Harris: “Yes, I would.”

The Harris remarks are another indication that heavy-handed climate activism will permeate a Harris administration.

The federal dietary guidelines have significant influence over what Americans eat. The guidelines determine the food in school lunches, military mess halls and in programs such as WIC and SNAP (food stamps).

As noted by the USDA, school lunches “must reflect the goals of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.”

Schools also cover the guidelines in the classroom, another opportunity to scare kids away from delicious hamburgers in the name of “climate.”

The Dietary Guidelines themselves have a shady origin. They were first written in the late 1970s by one single progressive staffer for progressive Sen. George McGovern. The staffer was selected because he was a good writer. He had no scientific background but did have an agenda: He was a “vegetarian who had some objectives other than the improvement of the national diet.”

As noted in the journal Science, the staffer “had no scientific background and no experience writing about science, nutrition, or health, believed his Dietary Goals would launch a ‘revolution in diet and agriculture in this country.'”

Some things never change. The progressive impulse to meddle with your food consumption is alive and well as shown by Harris’s remarks.
